I have been to Zen Forrest for a few special dinners and I have to say Chef Victor has knocked it out of the park every time. The food has been extraordinary every time. The owner is very hands on and the servers really go above and beyond. The entire crew there is very accommodating. It's one of the few places you can go and the servers give great beer and wine recommendations as well as giving great explanations and info regarding the food. Zen Forrest is truly a hidden little gem and everyone should get out there and give it a try.

I've only ever gotten the Zen Forrest friend rice from them, as take-out, but every time I come to New Port Richey (which is at least once a year) I look forward to this treat. It's the best fried rice I've ever had, anywhere. I love the mix of different rices, the variety of fresh vegetables, and the inclusion of fresh herbs really elevates the flavor. I like this dish so much that I've dissected it and listed all the ingredients I was able to identify in a note in my iPhone, hoping that I could somehow recreate the deliciousness back home in Boston. Now listen. It's still fried rice. It's a little greasy, but sometimes with a nice cold beer or glass of wine that's just what hits the spot - and this restaurant makes some of the best and most creative fried rice around. The flavors will surprise you. Give it a try!

This is my favorite restaurant in portrichey. I have been there a dozens of time and never had a bad meal. They are very vegatarian friendly

One of my favorite restaurants in New Port Richey...great Asian fusion, and a friendly chef who takes pride in what he serves. Order the edamame to start--you won't be sorry. The house salad is delicious, too. Food is a little pricey and meals are paced slowly, but if you're not in a rush, who cares? It's better than eating at the Golden Panda and getting AIDS.

This is a place my wife has been dying to try for some time. Well, we finally made it for lunch. The waiter was also the host, not uncommon for a small place at lunch time, but it did make for a long wait at the door, and only one table was seated. The lunch menu was pretty decent, though limited. The prices on the regular menu are quite high, though I don't let that bother me for good food. The issue I had here was that the Bokkum Bap I ordered was almost double the price of the Bul Go Gi fried rice that my wife had, though portion sizes were the same. My Bokkum Bap was Spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicey! I liked it a lot, but a second napkin for the runny nose was required. Natalie' Bul Go Gi was ok for me, but not as good as what our foreign exchange student from Korea had made for us. We also had the Zen Forrest rolls that we would recommend. The best thing about these was the spicy sauce on the side. Tuna tataki was also a worthy appetizer with good flavor. Don't take this review as a rap against the Zen. We enjoyed the visit and the food, and 3 stars from me means it was definitely good enough to go back.

I eat at this restaurant often. The food is amazing. I would describe the food as Asian Fusion. If you have an occasion to be in New Port Richey I would recommend eating at the Zen.

Ok I have come to the conclusion that these reviews have been padded. I'm guessing the restaurant paid for these reviews because there is no WAY this place deserves 4.5 stars. I have NEVER been SOOOOO disappointed with yelp until this day. How does a restaurant get 4.5 stars and have HORRIBLE food and a very slow wait staff? There were 4 runners/waiters and there were only 7 tables with people. It's a very small space in a very small strip mall which should have been my first clue but with 4.5 stars...it's like there has to be something special about this little hole in the wall right? I would give this place one star but I don't believe anyone would take it seriously but 2 stars is the highest I could EVER give this place. On to the food. We got a char siu to start with...it was thinly sliced pork with hoisin sauce drizzled and green onion sprinkled on top. They tried to make it sound fancy by calling it duck sauce, but it was pure store bought hoisin. The salad that came with the main dishes...I've never tasted such a bad combination of greens in my life. The dressing is ok. Nothing to spread the word about but the dressing was definitely the highlight of the salad. I try to eat everything off the plate, even though it tastes bad because I paid for it but this...I just could not eat it at all. When the waiter came to take the salad away, he was carrying another half eaten salad with him so I know it wasn't just me and that this salad was just plain bad. Main course I decided to go with their Thai Coconut Curry with Lemongrass Infused Shrimp. I asked for medium and personally I think it was a tad spicier then it should be but that is a personal preference so I don't think I can say anything negative about that. The flavors were "ok" but nothing exciting and not $16.50 worth. You can get this from any other Thai restaurant for less than $10. They did give a good amount of jumbo shrimp, which was a pleasant surprise and it was a little undercooked. On the side, they served it with jasmine rice and some sort of bean sprout "salad", which came on both our plates even though we ordered different dishes. My friend ordered the bul go gi. I'm Korean and this is where I really have to tear them a new hole. This dish was just garbage. I've actually had bul go gi from Pei Wei and it is very similar. Over powering flavors and instead of using the traditional sliced rib eye they decided to just butcher the meat into small thin pieces. My friend really wanted to try bul go gi as it is quite a Korean staple but if anyone has this, it would definitely put them off to an exquisite dish. Earlier that day, we did stop by a Korean grocery store and amazingly they had sliced rib eye for $6.99 a pound so even if they bought that they could still make a profit and send out a QUALITY product. Oh that dish was $16.95 and the ingredients into the marinade/sauce isn't even $5 worth and there couldn't have been more then half a pound of meat in there along with the jasmine rice and bean sprout salad. Overall, just a restaurant trying to make a buck. Even though the service was fairly slow for the server to table ratio, I have to say they were friendly...but that really is the only positive to that. They called this place an Asian fusion...um the only fusion here is their menu and there really isn't a good selection of Asian cuisine and the dishes they do offer, well they do it badly so maybe they should stick with one region? Overall, we will never go back and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Funny thing is, her friends said it was horrible...yelp...you failed me this time. And sorry for the long review, I was just SOOOOO offended by the 4.5 stars that I just had to say my peace.

This place is awesome! They served a special app which was a variation on a Cubano--the best I've had. The potstickers and tuna tataki were both great. The dinner salad was delicious as well--we brought home a bottle of their house made dressing. My entree was a surf and turf with huge jumbo prawns and steak medallions. Both were very tasty--I really liked that they didn't overcook the meat--it was perfectly medium-rare. The service was excellent as well!

I had dinner here recently with my husband, and it was over all a good experience. Our appetizer of choice was the crab rangoon, and it was delicious. I had the General Tso chicken entree, and my husband had the angel hair pasta. Both of our entrees were good. There was an odd situation nearby where a diner was complaining about their meal. The employee seemed less interested in finding a resolution and more interested in proving themselves right. Regardless, our meal was good, and we will likely go back sometime.

This place is simply amazing. Chef Victor never ceases to amaze. From tried and true items on the menu to daily specials to special nites like Peking Duck or any one of many special nites highlighting foods from different corners of the orient. Food is always 5 star as is the service and attention received.

We have been here twice in the last seven days and have enjoyed both times. It is more like Asian Fusion because they put an Asian spin on many non-traditional Asian dishes. Ordered off the menu the first time and came back for the Pho Special tonight. Both nights were very good. This is a very nice neighborhood restaurant that makes the effort to be a cut above with good, original dishes and attentive, knowledgeable servers.

The decoration definitely could use a little help but the food is just fine. Everything we've had here have been delicious. Zen Forrest Chicken Rice Soup - very very good if you like coconut milk, good size bowl for just $4 Vermicelli Crunch Salad - huge plate, all fresh ingredients, dressing for this salad can be a little strong because there's fish sauce in it Mahi Mahi / Talapia in Thai Chili Sauce - delicious sweet glaze, perhaps ask for a little less sauce if you don't like your rice to be drenched in sauce Tofu Zen - no canned ingredients here, tofu is a little on the bland side but overall a good vegetarian dish Jumbo Shrimp and Garlic Tossed with Lomein - very flavorful Bul Go Gi Fried Rice - rice is very moist, very good but definitely very oily Prices are very reasonable since there's a lot of food. Service has always been good during each of our visits. Dress code on Yelp says dressy but we've always dressed casually and I saw others did too.

Zen Forrest is a real gem. Every meal that I have had there has been exceptional - the creativity, the presentation, the fresh ideas and fresh ingredients - it's all wonderful. Tonight I had the spicy orange chicken. It did not disappoint. Next time I will have one of the signature dishes - the dumplings. Everything that our party of 4 ordered was excellent. The orange cake was sooo good! I'll be back very soon!

This is one of my favorite restaurants! Delicious every time! It's a cozy place and the staff is friendly and efficient. My husband LOVES their wasabi mashed potatoes and their fried rice is the best!! I want to go there right now!

Waitress was quick and attentive. Many vegetarian friendly options! The lunch menu was limited, but a decent price and delicious otherwise. The ambiance was very relaxing, however if you prefer to sit at booths you might be disappointed as only tables are available.

Have been coming to Zen Forrest since 2002! Chef Victor is very talented. I have seen his restaurant grow from 4 tables to what it is right now. You won't go wrong with anything that you order from the menu!

Yum! Food was delicious! We had the bul-go-gi rice, the seared tuna, and the fresh spring rolls (not always on the menu). The last two were fresh and delicious. The dressing on the tuna enhanced the tuna, and I found myself using the garnish from my spring roll to sop it all up. The bul-go gi rice was bursting with flavor. I can't say the service was great. It was a bit slow, but friendly. I will definitely come back.

I am so glad that I purchased the Groupon for Zen Forrest. The food was out of this world! Service was excellent! No doggie bag, cause we just couldn't get enough of that wonderful food! If you haven't been, you have to go!

Recently had 'mi' a Banh Mi sandwich, which I would eat happily even had it fallen to the floor. Sort of a hidden gem on the beaten path. Seemingly great care and attention given to using fresh ingredients. Nothing is cliche, here. Seems the chef's standards and influence have really taken hold, even down to the smaller things, such as a perfect glass of jasmine ice tea. Service was excellent. I will return again.

I've been eating here since they opened...very elegant yet quaint dining...amazing food. The general tso is my favorite. Dining there is always enjoyable, but don't be afraid to get take out, always fresh and they use quality "to go" containers. If you like duck, ( I'm not a fan ) a few times a year Vic prepares the best I've ever had. It's a real nice event as a 5 course presentation - trust me, give it a try! If you enjoy tasty, health conscious dining - you gotta go here. Tip: they have a lunch menu with smaller portions and some include the zen forest rolls. This is a way to sample the dishes at roughly half price.

It's with a heavy heart I must say I came here with grand expectations only to be supremely disappointed. The smooth jazz music in the background, attentive wait staff & awesome appetizers set you up with huge expectations for the main course. Unfortunately I cannot say the Shrimp Pad Thai was good or marginal. It was abysmally off. A basic dish like this I would have expected to be pulled off with grace.

Went for Fathers Day. Best choice ever made. I had the pu pu platter with a real hibachi. This was a one time special and you will not find this one the menu. I was lucky enough to be on their mailing list. Received the email a few weeks back and planed my vacation around this supper special. Photos just uploaded from this special meal. Thank you Zen Forrest for a wonderful Fathers Day.

I had the shrimp stir fry with the zen coconut sauce, and fried rice. I ate every drop. It was delicious. My daughter ordered general tso's chicken, and I tried it and it was very very good, way better then your typical Chinese takee outee. Would definitely recommend it for lunch, and a great quiet place for a romantic dinner. If u haven't tried it yet, do it!

Amazing. Never encountered a place quite like this. Very friendly environment. Great food. Service constantly check up on us, even the chef came around and remembered what we had ordered and ask us how everything was! Everything made in house the way it should for a restaurant like this.

I have eaten there before and liked it except for this time. Sorry to say the food was awful! The Crab Rangoon was overdone. The shrimp lomein was overcooked and heavy on the sauce. I don't think I'll go back for a long while.

  • Rich S.

My wife and I had dinner there for the second time and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious although we both thought the house dressing a bit strong. The service was excellent with our server anticipating our needs. As for quantity, neither of us were able to finish and the leftovers made a tasty dinner the next night I notice only a couple of negative reviews. Perhaps they would be happier at a Chinese buffet.

  • Will L.

After reading the reviews I expected spectacular. I was underwhelmed. The best part of the meal was the appetizers. The vegetable and cuban rolls were outstanding. On a recommendation from a friend, I ordered the NY strip. In retrospect shame on me for ordering a steak in an Asian restaurant. Bottom line two people ordered the steak at our table and the steak was tough and chewy. That is the reason for my low review. Everyone else at our table enjoyed the rice and lo men dishes.

Zen forest has me crying right now. The food is beyond amazing. This place is the gem of new port Richey, and even if I wasn't a local resident, I would make it a point to go here. They have an Asian twist on their food that is unlike any other restaurant I've ever been to. Not to mention their AMAZING local craft beer selection and ridiculously low pricing. It was 2 for $5 sangria. How can you go wrong. My husband had they're Japanese inspired dish, I can't remember the name, but it was some sort of beef rolled something, with wasabi mashed potatoes. TO DIE FOR. the wasabi potatoes had the flavor of wasabi without the super spicy kick to it. The sauce was full of flavor. I had the wontons with leek. Again, a huge portion and amazing. I hate peas, and I devoured the entire dish, peas included because the sauce it came with was that good. Also main courses come with a salad. If they ask if you want the house dressing SAY YES. It's a ginger flavored dressing, but it's not over bearing. I wanted to lick the plate clean. Our server was so helpful and catered to our every need. I wish I could give more stars and a better review. This place is amazing. If you haven't eaten here, your life isn't complete.

If someone was to ask me to describe this restaurant in one word, that word will be 'MEH'. I have tried this place, being new to the area, twice as it was recommended to me and have had an unhappy meal each time. The salad dressing was disgusting and the lettuce was not fresh. I know this is an Asian fusion type of restaurant but this has been the worse I have been to. The decor is plain and obsolete in a very small cornered place. You have to make reservations prior to coming to this place of which was surprising to me. People actually enjoy unseasoned, old food in this area, OH MY! I'm still in search of that perfect spot and this is definitely not it. Would I recommend this place, absolutely no, I will not recommend this place to anyone. I gave them two chances and each time they have made my dinners the worse. Thanks but no thanks. I have moved on.

No matter whether you get the cuban rolls, escargot in garlic black bean sauce, or bul go gi, you can't go wrong. They always have such tasty food here! They also have good wine. This is a good spot for date night.

Service was excellent, specials were expertly and energetically shared. Had to adjust my drink order because they were out of stock on something, but suggestion offered was delicious. Meals were good portions, and I'm looking forward to my leftovers! Desert menu kind of lacking. Overall, highly recommend.

My husband and I tried this restaurant because we both love sushi and chinese food. We got food to go and found it to be average. The zen forrest rolls were really good, the sushi was just okay. Overall, I found it to be too expensive for what you get. There are better options around town that taste better and are more affordable. Husband said when he picked up the food at the time scheduled, it was not ready and he had to wait quite a while longer before it was ready.

This is a diamond in the rough I've been visiting since it opened years ago. Who would've thought that such an elegant and gourmet bistro could exist in this neighborhood?! It's in a strip mall and to tell you the truth, I'm not even sure how we found it the first time. It might have been the bamboo and charming outdoor tables that drew us in, but the inside is just magical. The decor is zen with white tablecloths and relaxing music. The staff, including all of the servers and the chef himself, are pleasant and informative. As for the food... you can't really go wrong here. The only thing I've ordered (one million times in a row) is the Bulgogi Fried Rice. It's the greatest dish in the universe and I can't go without ordering it! Because of my addiction to it I actually learned how to make the marinated beef at home! I've tried almost everything else as well, from the steak to the mainstream chicken dishes, seafood noodle dishes, and all of their appetizers. You won't leave unhappy! My only complaint would have to be that they used to serve larger portions and they've since cut down on sizing and kept the price the same. It won't stop me from going, but if the pricing was a bit better, I'd order more! Also, I wish the iced teas had free refills. It's such a shame. This location is perfect for reconnecting with friends, a romantic date, or even lunchtime with just about anyone. Ask for a table in the back, as those are more private.

I loved this place. Really fast, friendly, and attentive service. The ambiance is calming and clean. This is a great place to get a vegetarian dish. Their general Tsos tofu was amazing and the zen Forrest rolls were so delicious. I would recommended asking for a different sauce then the one they serve with the rolls because they tastes so much better with a difference sauce. Great find, I will definitely be back.

We are in a vast food wasteland here in NPR. Zen Forest is a bright shining light in the darkness. Matt made us some wonderful soup....pho.....faaaaa....off the hook. It's hip and Urban and I love the place and I am old and cranky!!!!

We went the other night and thought the food was very tasty and presentations was delectable...we had the Zen Rolls,,,I had the TOFU Zen, and my boyfriend had the Chicken curry dish..he had our server bring him more hot sauce in case he thought he needed it,,,he loves HOT UNLIKE MYSELF. All in all we will definatley go back...I`m all about this kind of food,,,totally agrees with me unlike the Anerican restaurants that we visit

Chef Victor is so creative with his unique food that is so delicious it truly is mind blowing. From the amazing Báhn Mi to the Jasmine rice. The menu is so unique to the area that sets this beautiful restaurant apart from all others. The staff are so nice, and extremely helpful which always makes the visit more amazing. May I also add that it's a must to try the peach tea!! So yummy! So if you are looking for a really elegant, romantic night out, or need to bring business to a different place to make you stand out this is the place to go.

First, I have to confess... When I read there was an Asian fusion restaurant in Pasco County, I was skeptical. But my friends and I were looking for a restaurant near Trinity and the guest of honor wanted Asian of some variety. The Yelp reviews were good, so, fingers crossed, we ventured to Zen Forrest. Well, I stand corrected on my skepticism! The menu had a lot of variety, our server was fun, efficient, excited about the food here, and non-obtrusive. The food was delicious! It was so hard to make choices, but the 3 of us agreed on sharing an appetizer (Steamed Pot Stickers), 2 entrees (Bul Go Gi and Chicken Coconut Curry; each came with a salad and we ordered a 3rd side salad), and dessert (Coconut Panna Cotta with Fresh Tropical Fruit). All were delightful and all three of us were stuffed! The dessert was such a refreshing light touch after a full meal; glad we didn't resist! Maybe 5 stars is over the top. Maybe my surprise at this gem in a Pasco strip mall pushed me over the edge. Regardless, I'm sticking with it! Though not in an area I frequent on a regular basis, I will make it a point to go back!

Good food.... although because I'm not that familiar with Korean/Vietnamese food... it's a bit strange to read on the menu. But hey I'm adventurous. Simply, this is a lovely place with very good food and service. The chef is creative and service is VERY good. a must try!!!

Zen Forrest is, hands down, the best restaurant anywhere close to New Port Richey. The ALWAYS fresh ingredients are locally sourced, sustainable and prepared with the utmost care and attention. Every meal is cooked to order, the pride and attention to detail is apparent. Whether enjoying seafood or steak, chicken or lo mein, tuna tartar or the incredible escargot, your taste buds will be dancing. The servers are excellent, the wine, beer and sake list is vast and constantly evolving season to season. If you are a great cook and you want an amazing dinner that you couldn't have prepared better at home.... Chef Victor and the staff at Zen will NEVER disappoint. It is a relaxing and regular hideaway for us and we look forward to our next visit. Save room for dessert, you'll be happy that you did.

What a nice little find. I thought there were no fine dining places in and around New Port Richey, but I was pleasantly surprised. Do not let the strip mall location fool you. this place is a nice high end restaurant for the area and the chef really knows what he is doing. The food is delicious and it is personalized according to your taste. I like spicy and boy did the chef show how spicy he could make a dish and still contain the taste. I was in love with my dish and was sweating because the spice level was through the roof. The food presentation is high end as well. It is a pricy place, but the food is worth it, the service is worth it and the atmosphere is intimate and nice. A definite try for the New Port Richey area.

Blech. Food was bland. Service was extremely slow even though there were very few people in there. Servers kept walking past our table without even acknowledging that we didn't even have menus in front of us. Finally brought menu's when we asked for them and were only given one menu for 2 people. Wine glass was served HALF full. Food was bland. Prices high. Very dark inside. Makes me wonder if they're trying to hide filth. Nope. Won't be going back there for sure.

Anyone who dislikes this restaurant is clearly a tool and doesn't deserve to have taste buds. This is the best Asian fusion around, the service and concoctions amongst the tastiest I can think of. No other place in town lets you have a taste of China, Japan, Mongolia, South Korea, Snigapore, Vietnam, and Thailand like this place does. Bul-Go-Gi Fried Rice? My god. They even have Pho on mondays, and Bahn-Mi sandwiches for lunch. Terrific. A well-deserved five-star restaurant.

This place is full of good food and service. They have a great selection of wine and beer. Don't forget to ask for a Vietnamese coffee. The Chef has an incredible flexibility from French Cuisine to almost everything! It's worth every penny.

Great place for lunch or dinner. The Zen Forest roll is not just standard fate..Tastes great! The salmon it's farm raised from an organic farm and was outstanding. The wine I had was a Fess Parker Riesling and I'd have it again! A come back again kind of place!
